WePlay AniMajor – Teams, Schedule and How to watch

The last major Dota 2 tournament before the International 10 is all set to start on June 2. With around 2700 DPC points on offer, teams that haven’t yet qualified will be looking to grab a good chunk of points to secure their spot in The International 10.

The final 18 teams for the AniMajor have been confirmed last week and have qualified for the tournament in 3 divisions based on their positions in the Dota Pro Circuit(DPC) regionals. The 3 divisions being playoffs, group stage and wildcard.

The tournament is to take place between June 2-13, 2021 in the WePlay E-sports arena at Kyiv, Ukraine. All 18 teams will be present, however, there will be no spectators due to the on-going Covid pandemic.

Schedule and Format

June 2nd-June 3rd, 2021

These 2 days will be the wild card rounds. 6 teams will go on a single round robin and all matches will be bo2.

  • The top 2 teams will progress to the group-stage
  • The remaining will be eliminated.

June 4th – June 7th, 2021

The group stage will take place with 8 teams going on a single round robin, which includes 2 entries from the wild card stage. All matches are to be Bo 2.

  • Top two teams will move to the upper brackets of the play-offs
  • 3rd place to 6th will move to the lower brackets
  • Remaining will be eliminated

June 9th-June 13th, 2021

The playoff stages will see a double-elimination bracket. With all upper bracket teams having second chances against lower bracket ones. All matches are to be bo 3 except the grand final, which will be best of 5.

Tie-breaker rules:

  • For ties between elimination and survival or between upper and lower brackets, an additional bo-1 will be played.
  • For other ties- Head-to-head result, results against lower tier team, time Rating, coin toss and if a tie can be broken along the way the process is restarted (back to head-to-head result).

The anime themed event will be an exciting watch as some of the best top tier teams will go head to head and try to knock the other out. This will be a crucial point in the Dota 2 gaming scene this year as it’ll decide who will go to the biggest E-sport event and who will not.
