Ubisoft just officially confirmed the next Assassin’s Creed game, code-named ‘infinity‘ is in the making. In what might be a major change to the Assassin’s Creed series, a recent leak suggests the next installment can be a live-service one. If the reports are true, the future of the series will change entirely from the next game onward. The developers were until now, releasing stand-alone editions of the game that were focused on specific locations and historical time periods. Infinity will change the entire Assassin’s Creed series as we have come to know it.
The game evolved from the very famous Prince of Persia trilogy which most of the gamers will remember having played in early 2000’s, some as kids. The first Assassin’s Creed was seen as a game that combines an open world with the parkour abilities of POP, this proved to be a winning formula and garnered a lot of appreciation from the gaming community. The game gives players an opportunity to explore the world with a lot of flexibility. Over the years, the games have gotten better in almost all areas including graphics, but the series altogether has faded a little bit in popularity compared to what it was.Advertisement
The recent announcement from Ubisoft doesn’t shed much light into how the game will be. According to Bloomberg, Infinity will feature multiple connected settings that may look and play differently, and this number may expand over time. Reportedly, the new game is quite a few years away from release as it’s going to be a huge project for the developers.
Online service based games like Fortnite and GTA Online are very lucrative and keep players engaged for years with new content and major changes to the gameplay and setting. They also have systems which let players spend a lot of money buying new items or gaining access to special content. Probably inspired by these smash hits, Ubisoft too is jumping into the live-service band wagon.
Till now, two different Ubisoft studios in Montreal and Quebec, handled different installments of the game and worked independently. Earlier in april, Ubisoft brought the two teams together marking a huge change within the company. ‘infinity‘ will be the first project made in unison.
It’ll be exciting to see the way the game is developed and how live serviced online mode will work. As it’ll be the first time players will experience Assassin’s Creed this way.
