It’s the end of Grand Theft Auto Online for PS3 and XBOX 360 players as Rockstar has officially announced that it will be pulling back all support for these platforms later this year. Notably, these are the platforms the game was first originally released in, back in 2013. Ever since GTA released, the developers have constantly added to the game with new features, assets, vehicles and fun tools.
Announcing the news on it’s official website, Rockstar Games stated: “The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of GTA Online, including website stat tracking via the Rockstar Games Social Club, will officially be shutting down on December 16, 2021. In addition, Shark Cash Cards for GTA Online will no longer be sold for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions after September 15, 2021.“
Once the servers are taken offline on December 16, the players using these consoles will only be able to access the single-player mode.To continue their online plays they will have to upgrade to a newer version of either the PlayStation or the XBOX.
The latest move coming from Rockstar is not very surprising. There have been two generations of consoles launched since 2013 and the game has been constantly updated for the newer generations. It also seems unlikely that most spenders in the game still use the older gen consoles. The news has rightly been termed by different outlets as ‘the end of an era’, as the game moves on to achieve new heights.
