Studio Chizu has unveiled the full international trailer for Belle , giving fans a taste of what’s to come in the film. It will be released next month on the 16th.
It is the ninth project for Mamoru Hosoda, following his 2018 Oscar-nominated film Mirai. The movie is described as a touching, coming-of-age story that’s told in a fantasy-filled visual style.
The movie plot follows Suzu, a 17-year-old high school student living in a rural village with her father. One day, she enters “LJ,” a virtual world of 5 billion members on the Internet. There, she becomes Belle, a world-famous singer. She then meets with a mysterious creature. Together they embark on a journey of adventures, challenges and love, in their quest of becoming who they truly are.

Hosoda directed and wrote the movie. The film’s crew also includes character designer Jin Kim, as well as directors Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart of Cartoon Saloon.
Studio Chizu says it is “…a tale of hope and courage that will be an inspiration for everyone around the world.” Like some of Hosoda’s previous works, like Summer Wars, it will explore humanity’s relationship with a virtual world.
